Getting results in online marketing — pre-seminar thoughts

I’m sitting sipping coffee in the Conference Centre foyer at the Clarion Hotel in Cork, waiting in eager anticipation for Getting Results in Online Marketing to start.

There’s a positive vibe, and the course material (6MB or so of PDF files) has been provided on a 1GB USB memory stick. It’s a refreshing change to see that sort of added value — a 1GB stick is a genuinely useful little extra, whereas the 64MB or 128MB sticks that often accompany seminars and events just end up cluttering up drawers when you get home.

Well, the seminar is about to start… more later.

    i tought the seminar was an ideal follow up to the inital session I attended last year, more technical it may have been, but one comes away from the seminar feeling empowered and enlightened. Last years event was assisted me in making amendments to our website that had dramatic effects, thankfully we are now arriving on page 1 of google for certain keyword searches. From todays seminar, I think a lot of people will feel the need to redevelop their websites, and I feel that this may happen in the case of very few. In my experience, most decision makers are not up to speed with the internet and the relevance it plays to building your business. That requires a sea-change in thinking, let “Moses” begin.
    In summary, if you are lucky enough to go on either of the sessions,, take it with both hands, as it is the single most concise and informative 3 hours you are likly to spend for quite some time.

    Hi Aiden,

    Thanks for the comment… and I have to agree with you about this being an excellent follow-up session to Internet Marketing for 21st Century Business. I found the section on “silo”-type website architecture and latent semantic indexing particularly interesting.

    I’ll be posting a review of the seminar shortly… but suffice it to sat that overall it was an enjoyable, engaging and informative experience.

    Hi Calvin

    Normally Praxisnow run two seminars back to back over alernate days. I attended the first Seminar in Limerick one month before the follow up “getting results” seminar in Cork and I can state that even in that short time, the content on Seminar one (which was summarised at the start of Seminar 2) had been updated. This demonstrates to me that John Coburn is very much in touch with developments in the SEO world. PS: I note with interest your comments on the 1Gb Flash Drives provided at the seminar. I cannot avoid the urge to put forward a plug ! We supplied the units to Praxisnow with pre-loaded data files and corporate branding. So if anyone else is looking for a similar solution, we are always happy to oblige.

    Hi Tony,

    I posted a short review of the seminar since… and have to reiterate again that they offer an excellent introduction to Internet Marketing for the uninitiated.

    There is, of course, an awful lot more to this constantly changing and always challenging field… but in terms of hitting the ground running I can’t imagine a better primer than attending these two seminars.

    Great job on the flash drives, by the way — very neat little units. Love the folding design.

    Calvin, firstly may I sincerely thank you for reviewing both our seminars. It’s rare that someone publishes a review for us - let alone such positive ones! It is genuinely appreciated. I’m delighted to see Aiden and Tony post comments on your blog - thank you guys - Noel and I are very grateful. PraxisNow had a full, multi-camera television crew at both events recently in Dubin and each was recorded in its entirety so you will see various video posts and snippets posted in places like Yahoo video and YouTube in the near future. As much of the core content in both seminars (particularily “Getting Results in Online Marketing”) was originally taken from various sources in the US, it is felt that enough incremental value has now been added that we can now look at selling it back to them as a DVD set! If you have any other ideas on what else we might do with the recorded content, they would be most welcome. Thanks again Calvin for your positive words and again also to Aidan and Tony (plug aside! He’s great to work with - was always a step ahead of us!).

    Hi John,

    You’re welcome. As I mentioned at the seminar, the positive words reflect a very positive all-round experience at both events.

    I’d encourage everyone to take what they learn from seminars, the web, books, podcasts, etc., and to use it: test it in the real world.

    The beauty of digital marketing is that you can TRACK AND MEASURE EVERYTHING. Try things out, and find out what works for you, and just as importantly, what doesn’t.

    This isn’t a prescriptive medium… one size patently does not fit all. Find out what works for you, and then do more of it.

    Best of luck with the DVD set.

    Another option, I suppose, which would cut out the need for manual processing and distribution, is to make it available over the web.

    Each seminar could be presented as a series of four one-hour podcasts streamed over the web from your server.

    Another thing to think about is the possibility of running them as “live” interactive webcasts, again broadening the scope of your audience.

    Doubt there’s anything new there for you, but both of those options would probably work quite well, given the nature of the content.
